I got a package in the mail today and Miles helped me open it. After the packaging was all over the floor, he decided to jump on the bubble wrap. It wouldn’t pop so he told me, “not working.” I told him maybe it was old. Then he asked, “need batteries?” Apparently everything that stops working must need new batteries!

This reminds me of a day a few years ago when Quinn told me that his crayon needed new batteries…I have true children of the 21st century, I guess!

During the trip into Boston that I mentioned in my previous post, we went to the North End for lunch and then went to the feast that was happening that day. (You can check out some funny photos of Quinn, Miles, and me on an inflatable slide in the August 2009 album.) At said feast there were many games you could pay to play and win (very) cheap prizes, so we let the boys play one game, and they both selected some lovely plastic swords (with scabbards) as prizes. I was sooooo thrilled (remember my commentary when the boys got swords while we were on vacation?!?)

Anyway, they’ve been chasing each other around the house with these things and I realized that Miles was not calling his sword, “my sword” – no, no, he calls it “my sword fight!” But that’s not the funniest thing – he wanted to know what the scabbard was, so Eric had him say “scabbard” and then told him that that’s what you call the sword’s cover.

So Miles then held up the scabbard up and said, “my sword fight cover!”

We went to visit Grammie in NH and got to go to the Freedom Old Home week parade…

We celebrated Daddy and Uncle Sean’s birthdays with a trip into Boston…

We visited the Buttonwood Park Zoo…

Quinn went to summer camp (and Miles visited for a short time one day)…

We harvested lots of yummy veggies…

Last month we went to that magical place in NH called Storyland! It’s not too far away from Great Grammie’s house, so we were able to do a lot of things in one weekend! Check out the NH Trip album for more photos.

Before we left the park that day, Quinn wanted to know if we could come back again. I told him that we might be able to come back again next summer. He asked if we could drive there right from our house, but we told him that it was much easier to stay at Great Grammie’s house since she lived nearby. Without missing a beat, he asked, “Does Great Grammie live near Disneyland?”

So…can you guess what we did first at Storyland? Ride the train, OF COURSE!

Then we went to the rollercoaster and discovered that Miles just made the height cutoff, so he got to take his first rollercoaster ride! More than once…

A great blue heron was the highlight of the pirate ship ride. Usually they’re nervous around people, but I guess this one is used to the crowds.

The boys got to visit the Old Woman Who Lives in a Shoe, just like I remember from when I was a kid.

And what’s the best way to end the day?

Off to kindergarten. My little baby! He used to be so small…

And then he got bigger and went to preschool…

And then went to preschool again…

And now he’s taking the bus on his own to kindergarten!
